The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of Ramzan are the Kebabs, Biryani and most importantly Haleem! When The 3 Hungry Men was invited by ITC Gardenia for their Special Ramzan Menu, we couldn’t wait see what more exciting than the usual they would have on offer.

And boy, were we blown away. We started off with a Welcome Drink made of Pomegranate Juice with Lime that looked so simple but tasted divine. We were later also offered another fruity drink, made with all natural fruit pulp and this supposed to give the guests a sugary kickstart to break the day’s fast. Chilled and refreshing.

For the Starters, we had Kebab preparation each of Chicken and Fish. The Tarmezi Machali was a Tawa cooked Sea Sole with a marinade of cashewnut and brown onion paste. Quite different and was well cooked. The fish did not give us anything to complain about, but the Murgh Mahlaithi just stole the show for the night! With just a simple ginger and coriander marinade, these boneless pieces of chicken legs cooked over Tandoor were melt in your mouth drops of heaven! One of the best and most succulent Kebabs we have ever had!

As we proceeded to main course, we were first served the most important dish of Ramzan Iftar, the Haleem (with accompaniments of browned onion, coriander leaves, chopped chillies and lemon). While the flavour was absolutely bang on, we did feel the lentil portions in it were more than than the meat.

But this was all compensated for by the Dum Ka Murgh and Kareli ki Nihari. An extra special mention here for the Lamb Stew, the fragrant Kareli ki Nihari. Yes, Fragrant. With the Uzbeki Naan, this lovely breakfast stew elevated our evening completely. Slow cooked meat that was literally just falling off the bone. Surpassed all our expectations. Great combination with the Uzbeki Naan.

No Ramzan Meal is complete without Biryani. And when it comes to Hyderabadi Biryani, we must have Salan as well. The Mirch Baingan Salan complemented the Biryani so very well. The biryani in itself was a great dish with the lovely flavours of the meat and the well separated basmati rice. This was also accompanied with a lovely raita.

Rice Kheer & Kulfi

The perfect meal ended with a sweet note in the form of Rice Kheer and Kulfi. This amazing Ramzan Specials Menu, prepared by a third generation family chef is a true feast. Do visit soon, as the special menu lasts till end of Eid and treat yourself and your senses to the delicious iftar.

Location : K & K, ITC Gardenia, Ashok Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560001.
