T3HM headed to District 6, which promises to dish out sizzling starters this month. What did we find out? For starters, let’s say, there was no dearth of options.
Right off the bat, we knew we were in for a treat as the Chef had prepared a total of 14 sizzlers [7 veg + 7 non-veg], which was topped off by 2 desserts. The lunch was started, quite aptly, with a set of beer samplers [Wheat, Lager, Dark, Lager Strong & Radler]. We preferred the cider-based Radler, as it was the perfect day drink – light and refreshing. Its slightly sweet flavour also paired well with the sizzlers, in general, and the spicier dishes, in particular.
Getting to the sizzlers, we quickly realised that digging into the vegetarian section would be an extremely satisfying experience. Why you ask? Well, here’s a list of the variety on offer to get your taste buds tingling.
Sizzling Veg Dumpling | Assorted Wok Tossed Vegetables | Cheese & Vegetable Stuffed Tandoori Aloo | Dahi Kebab With Walnut & Mint | Potato & Corn Donuts with Curried Lime Sauce | Jerk Marinated Cottage Cheese & Pineapple Skewers | Andhra Spiced Mushroom
The Cheese & Vegetable Stuffed Tandoori Aloo was the runaway winner in this category. This beautiful combination of veggies and melting cheese spiced up by the tandoori masala left a mark on everyone’s palate.
For people with big appetites and even bigger hearts, we would recommend the Dahi Kebabs with Walnut & Mint as they were massive in size (see the image). They would serve as the ideal sharing plate for an afternoon of brews and conversations.
Special mention goes to the Sizzling Veg Dumpling, which was simple yet very tasteful.
We were then surprised with the Beer Breads, which arrived with Beer Butter, Mustard and Pesto Sauce as accompaniments. And what a novel idea it was. We absolutely loved the combination.
When we were done licking the delicious crumbs off the plate, we moved onto my favourite part of the meal – the Non-Veg Sizzler Starters. Here’s how they lined up:
Sizzling Spicy Chicken Dumpling | Chilli Basil Chicken | Roasted Chilli Hoisin Chicken | Tawa Jumbo Prawns | Beef Sukha | Coorg Pepper Pandi | 5-Spice Baked Fish
We loved the wok-tossed chicken with peppers and chilli basil sauce. It was exactly what we wanted because the beers served as a great foil to the spices. Beef Sukha was prepared a la Kerala style – with coconut and chilli.
If you fancy the Pandi Curry, then the Coorg Pepper Pandi will put an end to your cravings. Imagine gorging on spicy boneless pork in Coorgi pepper masala all day long – doesn’t get better, right?
So, there you have it. A plethora of sizzling options that are bound to wow you, regardless of your tastes and preferences. Before we finish this piece [literally], we’d suggest trying the Sizzling Brownie with the Chocolate Sauce and the Raspberry Cheesecake [the best any of us have eaten in a long time]. Nothing better than starting and ending on a sweet note.
District 6 calls this festival Sizzling Bites. But with its generous portions and big flavours, we think it’d be better known as a paradise for foodies.
