For all those who stay in and around Bejai, Chandu is a name taken as soon as you start craving for Chinese. And why not? The food is really tasty, it’s an open kitchen so everything is safe!
For those of you who don’t know the story of Chandus, here it is.
Chandu had started a small hand cart near Kottara Cross. Armed with a contagious smile and recipes he had learned, he started his cart.
It was a huge success, he operated only from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM and there was always a decent crowd. He managed to cater to all with a smile.
Back in the day a Full Fried Rice was just 20 Rs and a half was 10 Rs. Around 5 years later in 2009, Chandu realised that the crowd was increasing and he needed more place. He shifted to a tiny shop on the main road in Kapikad with 4 tables and lots of standing space, everyone was happy.
He realised that a lot of his customers were coming from far off places I.e Bondel, Vamanjoor etc. So he set up another stall at Mary Hill which was another huge success.
Fast forward to today’s date. I headed to Chandu who was very happy to see me.
Colin: Kya Chandu bhai, kaise ho (hi Chandu, how are you?) Chandu: accha hu, upar thoda construction chalu hai, usme busy hu. (I’m good, just a bit busy as I’m expanding the seating on the rooftop) Colin: accha toh upar bhi rent pe liya hai? (So you have taken the terrace for rent too?) Chandu: rent nahi, pura khareed liya Maine(no it’s not on rent, I’ve purchased the entire place) Colin: khareed liya? Baapre,( purchased? Omg) Congratulations Chandu Bhai Chandu: Bass aapki duwa hai (it’s all due to your support and prayers)
I was frozen. I couldn’t believe the guy who ran a little stall 13 years back for just 3 hours a day had become so successful! I was happy beyond words for Chandu, hardworking really does lead to success.
His secret? He says, be honest, serve good, fresh and unique food and always keep smiling!
We wish Chandu all the best on his journey and hope he reaches greater heights!
If you haven’t been there yet, you’re missing out on a lot!
P.S: Some of his MUST TRY DISHES are Triple Schezuwan Fried Rice, Lung Fung Soup, Chicken Chilli and ofcourse his famous Dry Fry Kabab! Don’t worry the rates are very affordable, everything on the menu ranges from 20-100 Rs and the quantity is huge!
