Now world leaders and corporate honchos will be able to land by helicopter on a heliport and be whisked down in a special elevator to the Peacock Suite. When the personal valet throws open the curtains, the view of Bangalore is simply breathtaking.
The Presidential Services are open at the Peacock Suite of Asia’s first Platinum LEED rated hotel, the ITC Gardenia. The suite is complete with its own private helipad.
Considered the largest among business hotel suites in India, the interiors of the suite designed by UK-based designer Francesca Basu is spread over 5040 sqft across the 20th and 21st floors of the hotel.
The designer took her cue for the interiors of the suite from the theme of the hotel, the ‘Tree of Life’. India’s national bird ‘The Peacock’ was her choice as the theme for the ‘Presidential Suite’. A ceiling-high embroidered panel of a peacock and a pea hen creates the mood at the entrance.
The different colors and textures found on a peacock have been used to good effect. The iridescent and vibrant hues of the peacock are set off against the neutral shades of beige and off-white.
The effect of this combination has proved quite spectacular, especially where giant peacock feathers are seen stretched across a beige background on the carpet. The sofas with their beige self-textured upholstery have peacock blue and green cushions. A blue chaise lounge rests against an etched glass wall with a diagonal design of royal peacock feathers.
The master bedroom offers a peacock with its tail spread out, as a splendid white metal and silver leaf headboard, for the bed. The peacock greens and blues are carried on the day-blankets that lie across the foot of the beds and cushions.
The baths created of white marble are spacious and bright with separate shower cubicles and a luxurious tub to soak in. The bath attached to the master bedroom offers mirror inlay on the walls, highlighting the hotel’s theme of the ‘Tree of Life.’
The peacock motif also makes its grand appearance at the well-appointed dining room in the form of a large glass panel featuring a dancing peacock. Opposite is a tastefully designed study. The glass-topped dining table seats twelve guests and the chairs around it are upholstered in the typical blue and green shades of a peacock. With ceiling-high sheer glass French windows, the effect is bright, airy and spacious.
The peacock is a royal bird, and fittingly, the wall behind the sofa displays portraits of important historical and royal personalities in full regalia. The portraits are very reminiscent of the erstwhile state of Mysore.
Drawing inspiration from the ‘king of birds’ the suite offers a private ‘lap pool’, a fitness center, with steam and sauna facilities. Located at the very top floor, guests can enjoy splendid views of the city.
The customized services offered include personalized in-room amenities of exotic fruit platters, assorted handcrafted chocolates and artisan cheese, a dedicated chef, personal butler and limousine services amongst others.
The hotel’s heliport is located on a separate level, a floor above the Presidential Suite. With its landing facilities now approved and authorized, guests can now choose to arrive in their private helicopters, specially designed to cater to twin engine CLASS 1 helicopters weighting a maximum of 5.4 tonnes.
